9.26 WET CHINA CLAY SPOIL (wCC) (5017) Series

Definition

Major soil group: 09 made ground soils Soils formed in a significant thickness of either artificial man-made material or former soil material or geological substrate that has undergone mechanical removal, transport and replacement.
Soil Group: 2 raw made ground soils Soils that EITHER, have no superficial organic-enriched layers more than 5 cm thick OR, if superficial organic-enriched layers are more than 5 cm thick, contain insufficient organic matter to give an average of 1% (0.6% organic carbon) over the upper 15 cm OR, are permanently wet within 20 cm of the surface. Such soils have no, sparse, or very recent vegetative cover and low biomass because of their recent emplacement or waterlogged condition.
Soil Subgroup: 6 permeable, seasonally wet raw made ground soils These soils show contemporary evidence of wetness within 40 cm of the surface but lacking within 80 cm EITHER, a subsurface layer, 15 cm or more thick, that is slightly or very slightly porous with high packing density OR, a coherent, consolidated man-made substrate. Such soils are permeable or moderately permeable throughout and relatively easily exploited by roots, but are affected by a seasonally fluctuating ground water. They normally support wetland habitats.
